The winners of Saints Best Tourism Site Competition
received their awards at a special presentation dinner held at
The Greenbank Country House Hotel at the end of October.
Two of the categories were won by Keswick area businesses:
Hollows Farm, Grange-in-Borrowdale took first place in the Serviced
Accommodation category with www.hollowsfarm.co.uk; and the Attractions,
Activity Holidays and Other Tourism Operators section was won
by Newlands Adventure Centre website: www.activity.centre.com
- both these sites were designed by local company Keswick
Computer Services.
This competition for Cumbrian tourism businesses was developed
by Chartered Accountants Saint & Co. in order to encourage
them to reap the huge benefits to be derived from using the Internet.
It was run in 2001 in association with Cumbria Tourist Board,
however, due to the Tourist Board's direct involvement in the
National Excellence in England Tourism Website of the Year Awards"
to be ranched by the English Tourism Council, it has withdrawn
from the awards this year.
The websites were judged by Nicos Souleles, Multimedia Design
and Digital Animation Course Leader at Cumbria Institute of the
Arts; Julian Whittle, Business Editor with Cumbrian Newspapers
Group; and Cyndy Potter, Senior Manager specialising in the hospitality
industry with Saint & Co. Chartered Accountants.
The entries in 2002 showed a great improvement in the sophistication,
content and overall design of sites with evidence of an crease
in the number of smaller businesses posting their own websites
with a unique domain name.
